Meet The Face Behind LEA AUSTEN PHOTOGRAPHY

I’m Lea Austen, the proud owner of LEA AUSTEN PHOTOGRAPHY. I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

LEA AUSTEN PHOTOGRAPHY was born in 2001 when my family moved from Charlottesville, Virginia, to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Prior to getting into the photography business, I was an actress and model, which is where my love for photography began.

Upon settling in the Charleston area, I opened my doors to my family and wedding photography business and also launched a second company exclusive to Wild Dunes Resort, where I have had an excellent opportunity to be their preferred photographer for over a decade. I also have a Master’s Degree in early childhood education and taught elementary school for a short time. Recently, along with my photography, I also teach yoga and mindfulness.

How has my business evolved, you ask? Well, moving from film to digital was a huge and exciting leap and opened up more possibilities. When I first started, I was shooting large weddings, but today, I only accept micro weddings, elopements, and vow renewals, which are much more personal.

Meeting new families, experiencing new places, and watching my loyal return clients’ families grow and change are blessings to me. The fact that I am asked to capture memories and to become part of someone’s family for a time is very meaningful to me, and I am always so grateful for each and every experience. The profession as a whole is rewarding. I am honoured and blessed beyond measure.

My philosophy is based on being a lifelong learner and the golden rule of treating others as one wants to be treated.

Why I’ve been successful

As an individual, what sets me apart is my honesty, integrity, and the fact I do my best to overdeliver. I attribute my success to my years of experience, and my will to serve and spread joy keeps me heading out the door.

I can’t say there has been one defining or satisfying moment for me. Receiving a compliment or having a family come back again and again means a lot and is highly satisfying.

During my downtime

When I am not at work, I enjoy practicing and teaching yoga. I also love to read and journal. I have a blog called My Practical Insanity that I have been sharing thoughts on for many years. I am working on a book. I also love to write poetry, sing, ballroom dance and enjoy time with my friends, husband, and my three dogs.

I also believe in giving back to society. As part of that belief, cancer research, fighting hunger, shelter and animal rescue organizations, and fixing our mental health care system are all causes that are near and dear to my heart.
